Why I built it

Admins and members get complete control. No passwords. No Stripe logins.

I’ve served on the committees of several grassroots football clubs in Northern Ireland, most recently as club secretary, and I’ve used a few of the membership platforms clubs rely on.

Too often they were yet another app with limited options. The admin side was confusing and took far longer than it should have, payments were handed off to Stripe for the club to manage, and pausing or cancelling a membership could mean waiting days on support.

I’m always looking for ways to make Braidwood Sports better. If something could work better for your club, I’d really like to hear it, and I read and consider every suggestion.

Card, Direct Debit and cash, in one list.

No more bank transfers to match up or reminders in the team chat. Members pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Direct Debit, automatically, or in cash, which you record in a tap. Every payment lands in one list, so you see who has paid at a glance.

  • Card
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Direct Debit
  • Cash

Each member chooses card or Direct Debit, and can switch, all through Stripe’s secure page, at no extra cost to members or your club. Cash is recorded in the app, so it sits in the same list. Apple Pay and Google Pay show where available. Apple Pay is a trademark of Apple Inc. Google Pay is a trademark of Google LLC.

Most grassroots clubs are run by a few volunteers in their spare time. Every screen here is built for them.

Memberships pause themselves in the off-season.

Every club knows the end-of-season scramble: cancelling payments one by one, too early for some and too late for others, members who forget and then ask for a refund, and setting it all up again for the new season.

Set your season once and Braidwood Sports does it for you. When the season ends, the memberships you choose pause by themselves, so nobody pays for the months nobody plays. Everyone is told before anything restarts, and payments start again on each member’s usual day.

  • Set it once

Type the first day and how many payments. We work out the rest: 10 payments from 1 August end on 31 May. Next year’s season is made for you.

  • You choose what pauses

Pause Senior and Junior, keep a Coaches type going. Yearly memberships always keep going, as there is nothing to pause.

  • Everyone hears first

Admins get an email 14 and 7 days before each change. Paused members are told when they restart and what they will pay, and how to cancel if they are not coming back.

  • Your plan rests too

When every membership type pauses, a Monthly Braidwood Sports plan pauses with it, and keeps the paid days you had left. Yearly is paid a year at a time, so it carries on. Last One Standing carries on for your players.

One fee on each payment, with Stripe’s fees included.

Some club platforms advertise “no commission”, then ask your club to open its own Stripe account and pay Stripe’s fees itself. With Braidwood Sports, one fee of 3.4% + 20p on each payment, with Stripe’s fees included, covers everything, and the running is done for you.

Last One Standing works the same way: £20 a game, however many play, and every club gets one free game when it joins. We never handle entry money, so we never take a cut of what your club raises.

Four steps from enquiry to your first payment.

  1. Set up your club

Fill in the short form, enter the code we email you, and your club is live. Attach your player list as it is and we read it for you. Check the names, then Approve all.

    Attach a list, approve all
  2. Share your join link

Your club gets its own page. Players choose a membership, add their children if they have any, and send a request. No payment is taken.

    /join/your-club
  3. Approve in one tap

Every request waits for an admin. Approve one with a 10 second Undo before anything goes out, or approve them all after a quick check. The member then gets a message to set up payment, by card or Direct Debit, on Stripe’s secure page.

    10 second Undo
  4. Watch the money arrive

Payments are taken automatically each period. See who has paid, who is due and who needs a nudge, and export it all to a spreadsheet.

    Paid by card

What else it does.

Seven more features. Each one is a tap or two on a phone.

Memberships by card or Direct Debit, one-off payments by card

Weekly, monthly or yearly. Once you approve a member, they set up card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Direct Debit once on Stripe’s secure page, and payments are taken automatically. For match fees, kit or a trip, start a Pot and share one link in your WhatsApp group.

Members and families

Import your list from a spreadsheet or a photo

Moving from another platform? Attach or paste the list you already have, even a photo. We read it and leave out repeats, and payment days in a spreadsheet or pasted list carry over, so nobody is charged twice. No forms, no waiting on support. How to move over

Reminders only when you switch them on

When a payment fails you see it straight away, with the reason. Send a friendly reminder to one member, or to everyone who owes. Automatic reminders stay off unless you switch them on, and never come more than once a week.

Cash payments in the same list

Some families will always pay in cash. Let people ask to pay in cash when they join (it stays off until you switch it on), approve them as usual, and record each payment as it comes in. Card, Direct Debit and cash, all in one list.

Sign in with a code from your email

Type your email address and we email you a Sign in button and a six-digit code. Tap the button or type the code: each works once and runs out after 10 minutes, so there is nothing to remember and nothing to reset. Your own phone keeps you signed in for weeks at a time.

Every feature works on a phone

Clubs are run from the touchline, the bus and the lunch break. Every feature works on a phone, not a cut-down version, and the same on a tablet or a desktop. Every screen was designed at phone size first, then given room to breathe on a bigger screen.

  • No pinching, zooming or sideways scrolling

Football first, and any other sport.

Last One Standing, in the same app.

A weekly football predictions game for your members. Everyone picks one team each round. Win and you are through. Lose or draw, and you are out. The last one standing is the winner.

  • Picks lock 10 minutes before the first kick-off of the round.
  • A draw knocks you out. Each team can be used once, and the list resets after 20 rounds.
  • One game link for everyone. Members and guests join before round 1 locks and pick from their phone.
  • Results come in by themselves. Each round settles and the next one opens without you.
  • £20 per game for the game software, however many play. One free game for every club when it joins.
  • Run it yourself or hand it to an LOS Manager. It stays apart from memberships and payments.

£19 a month, or £190 a year.

Send a suggestion
How much does it cost?

A club plan is £19 a month or £190 a year, and includes unlimited members. A fee of 3.4% + 20p on each payment, including Stripe’s fees, comes out of the payments your club receives. See the pricing page for a worked example.

Do members pay a fee on top?

No. A member pays exactly the price your club sets, for a membership or a one-off payment. The fee on each payment covers Braidwood Sports and Stripe’s fees, by card or Direct Debit. It comes out of the payment your club receives and is never added for members.

How do members pay?

By card or by Direct Debit, whichever each member prefers. Once your club approves them, a member chooses and sets it up once, on Stripe’s own secure page, and their membership is then paid automatically. They can switch later on My membership. Google Pay and Apple Pay work for cards as well, on the phones and browsers that have them, at no extra cost. Cards start at £10.00, so a smaller membership is paid by Direct Debit. One-off payments, such as a match fee or kit, are paid by card on Stripe’s secure page; for one under £10.00 your club records the cash.

Is there a member limit?

Members are unlimited on both plans, under fair use: a club that passes 1,000 members gets a quick check from our support team to make sure it is a real club and not spam, and so does a brand-new club that set itself up online when it passes 100. The club keeps working while we check, and nothing changes for a genuine club.

Do I need a password?

No. Enter your email address and we email you a Sign in button and a six-digit code. Tap the button or type the code. Each works once and runs out after 10 minutes, so there is nothing to remember and nothing to reset, and you stay signed in on your own phone. Club admins can also choose to sign in with a passkey (a fingerprint, face or device PIN) for extra protection.

Is there an app to download?

No. Braidwood Sports works in any phone or computer browser, so nobody has to find it in an app store. Members sort out their membership on WhatsApp or on My membership, and anyone can add it to their phone’s home screen from the browser menu.
